The AI and Misinformation project explores the dual role of AI in both spreading and combating misinformation. On one hand, AI algorithms can amplify the reach of false information by targeting susceptible individuals through sophisticated profiling and content distribution strategies. On the other hand, AI can also be harnessed to detect and counteract misinformation, providing tools for verifying facts and debunking false claims.
This project aims to develop advanced AI models that can identify and mitigate the spread of misinformation in real-time. It involves interdisciplinary research combining AI technology, behavioural science, and media studies to understand how misinformation spreads and to design effective interventions. The ultimate goal is to enhance public trust in information and to protect the integrity of public discourse.
